Meet Max
Meet Max!
Max has FeLV and came to us from Ohio. He was living outside at a car wash and the owner was planning on taking him home until his diagnosis. He had another cat at home and understandably couldn’t bring Max inside. Max is a goofy little boy who loves to follow humans around and loves to talk. He can’t believe how lucky he got making 5 new friends who are just like him. He’s got the cutest little mustache and he knows how adorable he is! Max, we are glad to have you here!

Max Says Hello
I let the FeLV kids stay outside last night. It was too hot to shut them in their buildings. I have fans going but.... gross. I was super nervous that something awful would happen last night and they would all escape or be eaten or... who knows. It was already hot when I got up this morning and I didn’t see a single cat outside in their yard. I panicked for a second, but then Max popped out from the shade, and then Jack from under a table, followed by the rest of the crew. Phew. ”Hello, did you bring food? Treats? Toys? Can we sit on your lap? Look at this weed! Did you see that big frog?”
Hello, boys. 😍

Max Joins Tigger's Coffee Club
Tigger and Max and I just having a casual afternoon coffee. There was some debate as to whether we should get hot or iced, but we also had a delicious vegan scone and everyone knows you have to have hot coffee with your scone. We are also discussing where to store their other treats, medicines, litter and other accessories. Right now everything is in my basement and kitchen, but it would be cool if we had a couple cabinets to store their things right out in their buildings. That was Tigger’s idea, don’t blame me.

Max Has FIP
Max has FIP. We did some bloodwork yesterday and drew some fluid off his abdomen and everything matches what we would expect with a classic wet FIP case. Ordinarily this would be horrible news. I’ve never heard of a cat surviving FIP. So... still not great news. But we are going to try something kind of experimental. I’m honestly not even sure how much detail I should go into, but this treatment has had great results in other cats. I’m not sure if there are any studies on its effectiveness in cats with FeLV though. Max is skin and bones. He hasn’t eaten in weeks other than what I’ve been force feeding him. At this point we have nothing to lose. The treatment is insanely expensive but I think it’s worth a shot. He had his first dose yesterday, and this morning he ate a bit of dry food on his own. Luck? Coincidence? I don’t know. I don’t want to get my hopes up but I’m excited about what we are seeing so far. COME ON, MAX.Description goes here

Max The Fighter
Silly, silky, sweet Max. Last year Max survived FIP - a disease that until recently was 100% fatal. Couple that with his feline leukemia and the odds seemed incredibly low. He had stopped eating, become lethargic and jaundiced, and had lost a ton of weight. The vet he was seeing recommended euthanasia.
But a friend of mine turned me onto this drug that was being sold on the Chinese black market. It seemed bizarre, but Max had nothing to lose, so we went for it.
And it worked. Miraculously well. After just one injection, Max was eating on his own again. After 2 injections he got some personality back. Several more weeks of daily injections, and Max came fully back to us. It’s been almost a year since his treatment now, and he is officially cured.
Today he enjoyed playing with Grayson, lounging in the sun, stalking through the tall grasses, and eating some of his favorite canned food. We love you, Max, and are beyond glad you’re still with us!
Sometimes you have to take the risks and make miracles happen. ❤️

Max Goes To The Dentist
FeLVie Max is headed in for his dental this morning! Tooth and gum issues are extremely common with cats that have feline leukemia virus. Many of our babes have had teeth pulled to keep inflammation in check and keep them comfortable. While it’s not a major surgery, it is still surgery, and Max has to go under anesthesia. Keep your fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly today and we get to bring him home this afternoon healthier and happier! Description goes here
